University of Toronto - Scarborough

The University of Toronto Scarborough Library serves the Scarborough community of the University of Toronto and is one of the three main campuses. The library is home to the Archives & Special Collections, whose mandate is to acquire, preserve, arrange, describe, and provide access to rare and unique materials that support curricula and research at the University of Toronto Scarborough, materials documenting the history of the University of Toronto Scarborough campus, and material documenting the Scarborough community. The current collections housed cover a number of topics including Scarborough History, Immigration History, Food Studies, Global Asian Studies, Human Geography, and Urban Development.

The University of Toronto Scarborough Library is also home to the Digital Scholarship Unit (DSU), which aligns with campus and institution-wide services, and national and international communities of practice to provide the UTSC community with access to digital scholarship services. The DSU provides consultation and development services together with liaison librarians for experimentation and co-curricular pedagogy. The DSU also collaborates with Archives and Special Collections for the creation of local digital collections.

The Harley J. Spiller collection comprises some 10,000 menus, business cards, restaurant matchbooks, and a variety of objects related to Chinese cookery. The majority of the menus document Chinese cuisine found in restaurants located predominantly in New York state. Menus can, however, be found from across the United States, Canada, and other international locations.
